How to create a cosy home in Autumn

Autumn is my favourite season.  I love packing away the summer wardrobe and bringing out my cashmere jumpers, boots, hats and scarves!  It’s all about being cosy for me and this year I’m wanting to introduce more cosiness into my living room for autumn.

Autumn interior décor is all about creating a warm and cosy atmosphere that reflects the colours and textures of the season.  I know I just want to cosy up in my comfy pyjamas under a big throw as the nights close in.  It’s at this time of year I miss a fire, but instead I light lots of candles which help to convey some of the ambience I would get from a fire.

Other ideas I’m considering this year to ramp up the cosiness are:

Warm Colour Palette – use warm earthy colours like deep reds, rusts and tones of brown (which is very popular at the minute) on walls and upholstery.

Natural Elements - incorporate natural elements like pinecones, flowers and branches in vases, centre pieces and wreaths

Autumn flowers are a great way to add colour and texture

Cosy Textiles – add plush blankets, throws, cushions and rugs.  Use faux fur, wool or boucle for added texture.  Use a basket to store your blankets and bring them out each evening or on those horrible days when you just want to chill on the sofa.

Candles and Lighting – Use candles, tea lights and lamps to create a cosy ambience.  Consider changing the bulbs in your lamps to a warm colour if they’re too bright.

Seasonal Art and Prints - consider changing your wall art to autumn themed pieces.

Pumpkins - decorate and display seasonal pumpkins! Real or faux there’s plenty of choice in the shops now.

Seasonal Wreaths - hang an autumn themed wreath on your front door or somewhere inside your home - above the fireplace or on your cooker hood.

Remember the key to autumn décor is embracing warmth and cosiness with the natural beauty of the season.  You should mix and match the ideas above that suits your style.

Let me know which ones you’re going to embrace!
